The Pushkar Fair is one of the most sought after tourist attractions in the state of Rajasthan. The fair takes place during the month of November. Apart from devotees coming to the religious fair to pay their homage, many cattle breeders from across the nation come to sell their cattle as well. Cattle owners throng to Pushkar every year to showcase their domestic animals and this year a buffalo named Bheem became the talk of the town because of its unparalleled physique. The visitors were taken aback with surprise by its size and weight. Almost nine years old male buffalo of Murrah breed is fourteen foot long and six foot tall. The buffalo is valued at Rs 24 crore.
While talking to the owner of the buffalo, Arvind Jangid from Jodhpur shared that the buffalo is named after the Hindu mythology epic Mahabharata’s Bhima, the second among the five Pandavas. As per Arvind, “An Afgan Sheikh who came to Jodhpur offered him Rs 24 crore for the buffalo, but he rejected. He explained that he didn’t bring the buffalo to the fair to auction it, but instead to raise awareness about the Murrah buffalo breed’s protection.”
He also shared that Bheem has been participated in the fair from the year 2018. He also took part in various animal contests in various cities such as Nagaur, Balotra and Dehradun and won awards as well. In 2017, at Agrotech Meet in Udaipur city, Bheem got recognition because of its characteristics and his value surpassed some other famous and expensive buffaloes of India such as Yuvraaj.
The bovine Bheem weighs around 1500 kg and is maintained at a cost of Rs 2 lakh per month. His diet includes one kilogram of ghee and 25 litres of milk. In addition, he consumes one kilo of cashews and almonds every day. With such astonishing characteristics and traits, Bheem is not only gaining recognition and acclamation in India but also globally.
